Do You Need a Second Makeup Artist for Your Wedding?

When planning your wedding morning, one of the overlooked aspects is realising that you may need more than one makeup artist.

It seems like a simple question, but the answer isn't just about numbers - it's about time, energy, and the kind of experience you want to create on the day.

What's a realistic number?

Every artist has different numbers with most completing 3-5 services within a wedding morning. Depending on their speed of application, what kind of hairstyle they are working with and what kind of makeup looks.

This allows enough time for:

  • proper skin preparation

  • attention to detail

  • small adjustments without feeling rushed

  • minor interruptions that happens on the morning

More than 3-5 services and the morning can start to feel quite tight (and very early!) - both for the artist and the bridal party.

It's not just about numbers - it's about timing

The number of people is only one part of the picture.

Your timeline also depends on:

  • what time you need to be ready

  • ceremony and travel time

  • how early everyone is willing to start

For larger bridal parties, this can sometimes mean:

  • very early mornings (we are talking 5am or earlier!)

  • or trying to fit everything into a shorter window

Both can affect how the morning feels.

My approach to wedding mornings

For me, I personally take on up to 4 services.

This allows me to work at a calm, steady pace and give each person the attention they deserve - especially in those quiet, getting-ready moments.

For larger bookings, I work alongside a small, trusted team of artists who align with my style and approach.

I will also:

• coordinate the timing

• structure the schedule

• make sure everything flows smoothly

So you don’t have to think about any of it on the day.

When a second artist is a good idea

Bringing in a second artist is often the best way to create a more relaxed and enjoyable morning.

It’s especially helpful when:

• you have 5 or more services

• your timeline is on the tighter side

•you’d prefer a later, more comfortable start time

Having an additional artist allows everything to run in parallel, rather than one after the other - which can make a big difference in how the morning feels. I always recommend a second artist

A few things to keep in mind

If you do bring in a second artist, there are a couple of practical things to consider:

• there may be an additional travel fee

• you’ll need enough space for another setup

• timing may need to be coordinated a little more carefully.

This is something I guide and organise for you, so it still feels seamless.

Creating a calm start to your day

Your wedding morning sets the tone for everything that follows.

It’s not just about getting everyone ready - it’s about creating a space where you can feel calm, present, and enjoy the experience.

Having the right number of artists plays a big part in that.

Imen's Final Thoughts

A beautiful makeup could easily be overlooked if everyone is stressed rushing out of the door due to poor planning. Beyond my role as a Perth makeup and hair artist, the trick to having a seamless morning is the organisation of your wedding morning. I used to be an event manager so timelines and schedules are something I'm very familiar with!

If you're unsure how many artists you might need or what your morning schedule should look like, it's something I'm always happy to guide you through.

Every wedding morning is a little different - and the goal is to create something that suits you and the rest of the day. If you need some inspo - take a look at my other blog on tips in creating a calm wedding morning here.
