2018 Beauty Favourites and Defining Moments
I have highlighted my top 2 products and defining moments of 2018. I feel like I have more but I will keep it short and sweet!
Face - Glossier Stretch Concealer
This only came into my life half this year but I'm not sure what I did without it! I use it everyday, concealer and sometimes as all over foundation when I'm lazy. Literally, just stuff my beauty blender into the pot, it blends like a dream, buildable coverage and doesn't cake or dry up on any blemishes. I thought the Makeup Forever HD concealer would change the game but no way!
Skin - The Ordinary, Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
Okay not sure what kind of magic is in this bottle but it has changed my skin! It has helped me with my breakouts and blemishes. This was such a random pick up as I heard great things about The Ordinary. I'm really excited to try more of their skincare! I use this as a serum before my moisturiser day and night. Affordable and it works - why isn't there more skincare brands like this?
Defining Moments
This year, I have made a conscious effort to invest into my makeup passion. What did this look like?
Designing this website and my logo
Regularly updating my Instagram and Facebook page
Saying yes to collabs and freelance opportunities
This blog!!
I struggled a lot with comparing my service and "brand" with other artists - you know, the whole "why isn't my Instagram growing and how do I still only have over 200 followers (really, why though? haha)." I realised I genuinely enjoy creating. I found a passion for doing collaborations with other Perth creatives and the joy of when I put the final touches to a makeup and hair service. I also learnt that I shouldn't validate my work based on someone else's opinion or on how much business I am getting.
It's been a whirlwind of trialling, failing, self- pity parties but the show must go on and "Imen you got this!" in the year of Imen Chow Makeup.
I hope 2019 will be just as growing, continually exploring this business, a passion of mine, no matter what it looks like to anyone else. (Maybe I will do another blog on my goals for 2019 too!)
